Knowledge hub

The terms you meet when building and running a charging site. From the grid connection to invoicing the driver.

Site energy

Reserved capacity
The level of grid draw agreed with the distribution operator. You pay for it even when you do not use it.
BESS
Battery Energy Storage System. It covers the peak the grid would otherwise have to deliver.
Peak shaving
Trimming the demand peak from the battery. It lowers reserved capacity and the capacity charge.
DC-DC microgrid
Linking the grid, photovoltaics and a battery on the DC side. It delivers more power than the grid connection can carry.
Load management
Sharing power between stations so that total draw stays within the agreed capacity.

Charging and hardware

AC vs DC
AC charges through the converter in the vehicle (slower, cheaper to install), DC feeds direct current straight into the battery.
CCS2
Combined Charging System 2 - the European connector standard for direct current charging.
Eichrecht
German metrology rules for charging measurement. They require a verifiable record of the energy delivered.

Network operation and software

OCPP
Open Charge Point Protocol - an open protocol between the station and the platform. It lets you manage hardware from other manufacturers too.
OCPI
Open Charge Point Interface - a protocol for exchanging data between networks. The basis of roaming.
CPO
Charge Point Operator - the operator of charging stations. Responsible for technical operation, pricing and availability.
EMSP
E-Mobility Service Provider - the provider of the service to the driver. Issues the card or app and invoices the charging.

Frequently asked questions

Charging stations

Which charging stations does Polyfazer supply?
DC chargers from 40 kW to 480 kW and AC chargers from 22 kW to 44 kW. The DC ranges are Vision Pro, Vision, Core, the compact Wallbox 40 and Split for the highest outputs. The AC models are Nano Pro and Argo Pro.DC chargers
What is the difference between Vision Pro, Vision and Core?
Vision Pro (60–240 kW) is the premium build with a large advertising display where the site can show its brand. Vision (60–400 kW) is the premium build without a large display and has the widest power range. Core (80–240 kW) offers the best price-performance ratio for a fast rollout and has a smaller display.
Which connectors do the chargers have?
DC chargers use CCS2, the European standard for DC charging. Vision Pro, Vision and Core have two connectors, Wallbox 40 has one. AC models have Type 2, with a tethered cable or a socket.
Can a charger be wall-mounted?
Wallbox 40, Nano Pro and Argo Pro are available for wall or pedestal mounting. The other DC chargers are free-standing.
What is the Split range?
Split consists of a main cabinet and separate dispensers. The cabinet delivers 360–480 kW and serves up to 8 connectors: 4 dual-connector dispensers or 8 single-connector ones. Dispensers come air-cooled or liquid-cooled.
Can a charger's power be reduced?
Yes, every charger can be derated. For example, 22 kW AC chargers are commonly set to 11 kW.
Do the chargers support Plug & Charge?
Most models support Plug & Charge (ISO 15118). We are adding datasheets for each model; until then we confirm support for a specific model on request.Downloads
Are the chargers CE-marked with certified metering?
Yes. The chargers are CE-certified and have MID-certified metering, so you can bill energy per kWh.
What warranty do you provide?
The standard warranty is 2 years and can be extended up to 5 years.
How much does a charging station cost?
We do not publish prices; every quote is on request. It depends on the model, power, cable length, payment terminal and whether the site needs battery storage. Configure a setup yourself, or we will prepare a proposal free of charge and without obligation.Configure a station
Where can I find datasheets, certificates and manuals?
Parameters and the series comparison are on the website. Datasheets, declarations of conformity and manuals for supplied models are sent by email on request, including documents for tenders.Downloads

Grid connection and energy

What if the grid connection cannot supply the chargers?
Instead of upgrading the connection, we combine the grid, solar and battery storage into a DC-DC microgrid. A 100 kW connection can then deliver up to 800 kW to the chargers, with no wait for the grid operator and no investment in your own substation.Size my site
What is the difference between a DC-DC and an AC-DC microgrid?
A DC-DC microgrid combines the grid, solar and battery on the DC side, so energy avoids unnecessary conversions. It is newer and more efficient. We also build AC-DC microgrids. How the microgrid works
How does battery storage reduce costs?
The battery covers demand peaks, so a lower reserved capacity is enough and capacity charges drop. You draw only the site's average power from the grid. When no car is charging, the battery earns through energy arbitrage and raises self-consumption of solar power.
Can the platform manage power based on the whole building's consumption?
Yes. It needs the building's consumption data - either from a meter at the building's grid input, or from an existing building management system that sends it to Polyfazer via API. Charging then stays within the capacity available to the building.

Software and payments

Can the Polyfazer platform manage other manufacturers' chargers?
Yes. The platform is hardware-agnostic and connects chargers over the open OCPP protocol, so it manages other manufacturers' stations too. You do not have to replace what is already installed.About the platform
Can we buy just the software, without your chargers?
Yes. We sell software and hardware separately. The platform is open to chargers from many manufacturers, so you can run it on a network you already operate.
Does the platform support roaming?
Yes, via Hubject and OCPI. Drivers from other networks can use your chargers from day one.
Can we run the platform under our own brand?
Yes. Apps and portals for drivers and partners carry your brand; customers see you, not the supplier. The platform covers station management, tariffs, payments, automatic invoicing and roaming.
How does switching from another platform work?
We help you move your existing chargers. Users and RFID cards can be bulk-imported with ready-made tools. Bulk transfer of other data is possible too, and pays off mainly for larger networks.Contact us
How can I try the platform?
Open the portal demo right away, no appointment needed. Or walk through station management, tariffs, payments and roaming on real data with us - the demo takes half an hour.Open the portal demo
How does a driver pay at the charger without an app?
With the Nexgo UN20 payment terminal at the charger. Drivers pay with an ordinary VISA or Mastercard card - contactless, chip or magnetic stripe, with no app and no registration. Pre-authorisation ensures payment for the energy actually used. The terminal is rated IP65 for outdoor use.Payment terminal
Can the payment terminal be added to existing chargers?
Yes. The terminal needs no changes to the charger's software or hardware, and one terminal serves a whole group of chargers on site. It mounts on its own pedestal, on a charger or on a wall. Payments, sessions and invoicing are connected to the Polyfazer system.
